The Sadar police station area of this city has once again witnessed burglary. Miscreants looted gold ornaments and cash worth lakhs of rupees on Tuesday from some houses.
V Ramesh Achari and Ganesh Achari stay in houses adjacent to each other’s at Soundharya Nagar in Ratnapur on the outskirts of the city. While the family members of both houses were in deep sleep at 11 pm on Tuesday, the miscreants by breaking the backyard doors entered the houses and looted 10 tolas of gold and 200 grams of silver ornaments and cash, said the police.
When Ramesh Achari woke up in morning, he saw the almirah opened and ornaments and cash missing. After he lodged a complaint at the police station, a scientific team along with a sniffing dog reached the spot and started investigation, but no arrest has been made so far.
Most women in the city feel unsafe even to walk on the road alone or even in groups during night hours in Gandhinagar-DAV School Road linking Mahamayee Women’s College, Dharmanagar via Gandhinagar 3rd line Extension as several hooligans are moving by motorbikes at intervals targeting women for snatching ornaments.
Though several such incidents have taken place in the area, no effective police patrolling is carried out. In this area, some street light posts are not functioning, giving an advantage to the miscreants to commit crime. According to some local residents, the patrolling police have never dared to interrogate the suspected miscreants.
In another development, the BN Pur police arrested a criminal, Sreedhar Satapathy alias Babu, and forwarded him to court on Wednesday. Sreedhar, reportedly involved in several crimes and in the most-wanted list of the city police, was absconding since long. He is a resident of Babaji Tota Street of the City Hospital area. Several cases of attempt to murder, threatening, extortion and bombing are pending against him.
Mention may be made that Sreedhar reportedly threatened some political workers during the last BMC elections before absconding. The police nabbed him from the Khadasingi area.
