The city police have recovered stolen gold jewellery studded with precious stones, antiques and other valuables worth over `50 lakh belonging to a royal family here and arrested three persons, including two women, in this connection.
The police on Thursday said the stolen gold jewellery weighing nearly one kg, stones and other jewellery of two kg and a gold-studded Swiss watch of `2 lakh belonged to one Jayanti Samantray, a granddaughter of erstwhile Kanika king. While Jayanti and other family members were away from their house at Srivihar Colony of Tulasipur on December 6 evening, the house was burgled and the valuables were stolen.
The Bidanasi police arrested Jayanti’s former domestic help Tulasi Das, her cousin Mamata Pradhan and Mamata’s son Sunil and recovered the valuables from their possession.
The police said Tulasi was working as a domestic help in Jayanti’s house for over six years and she was disengaged last month. “In vengeance, Tulasi masterminded the burglary and helped Sunil enter the house through the skylight to loot the valuables,” said Bidanasi police inspector Sunil Kumar Mohanty.
