To create more employment opportunities through industrialisation in non-mineral sector, the State Government has initiated steps to set up a bulk drug park in the Tata SEZ at Gopalpur in Ganjam district.
The proposed project received in-principle approval at a meeting presided over by Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy on Friday. The meeting held on digital mode was attended by Industry Principal Secretary Hemant Sharma.
It was revealed that the proposed project spot at Gopalpur is well connected with port and railway. It is less than two hours reach from the Biju Pattnaik International Airport. There is also an air strip at Gopalpur. The required 1,000 acres of land is available in the SEZ and connected with the NH-16.
It was decided that a special purpose vehicle (SPV) will be formed involving Idco as lead promoter and TSSZEL ( Tata Group) and co-promoter to carry forward the project proposal.
The park would have all the advanced facilities, including a central affluent treatment plant, solid waste management, warehousing, dedicated power distribution system, steam generation etc.
The cost of the infrastructure development in the park is estimated around Rs 1,500 crore. The project would be implemented through financial support from both the Central and State Governments.
The park would create employment opportunity for around 5,000 people. The Chief Secretary directed to send the proposal to Union Government by September 25, 2020.
