A city-based builder was arrested on the charge of duping gullible customers of Rs 1 crore promising them to provide plots and houses in the capital city on Tuesday.
The Saheed Nagar police arrested Ganapati Eastcon Private limited managing director Chinmay Das while as many as eight cases of fraud were registered at the police station against him here, police added. Police sources said Das collect money from customers in advance to provide plot in the city and later avoided the customers. The company has its head office here at Saheed Nagar.
“I had given Rs 21 lakh to Das in advance for a plot in Mancheswar area three years ago. Unable to get either the plot or money during the prescribed time I had lodged a complaint,” said a victim. Meanwhile, the police have expedited an investigation into the case and are examining his criminal antecedents and bank accounts.
