Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Srikant Jena on Sunday urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to establish a sports complex and stadium named after Subal Sahoo at Barpali under the Bijepur Assembly constituency in Bargarh district.
“Subal Sahoo was not only a three-time MlA (of Bijepur) and a popular leader but also a talented sportsperson, who had brought laurels to Odisha. His untimely death has created a vacuum in fields of sports and politics as well. I and leaders from other parties had attended the 12th day of death ritual of Sahoo on Saturday. We unanimously resolved that a sports complex and stadium should be established at Barapali in memory of Sahoo. Hence, take steps in this regard at the earliest,” Srikant wrote in his letter to the CM.
He said the sports complex and stadium, if established, would help youths of the western Odisha in developing their sports talent.
