Former Finance Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadai has urged the State Government to construct a modern Kalyan Mandap on the old land at Unit-VIII in the better interest of the general people, particularly of Nayapalli.
Ghadai has written a letter to Urban Development Minister Niranjan Pujari in this regard.
“Despite protests, the BMC demolished the city’s first (30 years’ old) Unit VIII Kalyan Mandap in 2016 on the plea of constructing its new office building.
But it has now decided to construct its new office building at another place.
The demolished Kalyan Mandap was a major source of revenue for the BMC compared to other Kalyan Mandaps in the city. While thousands of people were depending on it for various social functions, it was also being used as a nodal centre for preparation of relief packets during the times of natural calamities.
Kindly, take steps for construction of a new modern Kalyan Mandap on the same land,” Ghadai mentioned in the letter.
