Panic gripped at Adipur Street in Brahmapur when the former Chairman of the Buguda Notified Area Council (NAC) Balkrushna Patra was shot dead by unidentified miscreants on Tuesday.
The incident occurred when two unknown miscreants opened fired at Patra while he was returning from a brick kiln by his motorbike. Patra, who sustained two bullet injuries on his head, died on the spot.
Following information, the Brahmapur SDPO and Additional ASP rushed to the spot and started investigation.
Though the exact cause of the murder was not yet known, police, however, suspected either political or business rivalry as the reason. Meanwhile, locals staged a road blockade near the Buguda High School demanding immediate arrest of the assailants.
