Unable to bear the hooliganism meted out to them by a foreign liquor shop-cum-bar owner and also the unsavory activities of drunkards, villagers

of Panchughata where the shop located under Jaleswar police limits has sought intervention of the Baleswar district Collector urging him to shift it.

The villagers alleged that the shop was set up near the village despite stiff opposition seven years ago and since then the villagers, particularly school and college going girls of Panchughata, Sasanbada and other nearby villages are living a life of misery.

The villagers also alleged that though they brought the injustice meted out to them by the bar namely Shanti Bar owner to the notice of the local police nothing tangible has happened as yet.

It was alleged that though Sibu Patnaik, son of the bar owner Satya Ranjan Patnaik, beat one Babulal Kar black and blue last month in the bar last month, no action has taken against him.

Despite lodging of an FIR by the victim, the Jaleswar police have yet to even register the same.

Rajat Kumar Das, a resident of Panchughata, alleged that since he is opposing the bar in the village he is being targeted by the goons.

“On March this year, I had received a call from the cell no. +91-7377351487 and was told that he is calling from Jaleswar NAC.

He told me that a bomb has been planted a top my house in my village.

Immediately, I intimated the same to the Jaleswar police station in-charge Dillip Kumar Sahu but to no avail,” rued Das.

He further said, “apprehend it may be a call pertaining to the same as I have always expressed displeasure with few villagers on the liquor shop issue.”
