With the efforts of Baleswar MP RK Jena, the longstanding crucial demand of the people of north Baleswar for construction of an underpass near Vellora Square on NH-60, a stretch between Naharpatna and Kharagpur, is likely to be fulfilled after a high-level committee of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) visited Baleswar recently.
The spot visit of the NHAI team was made after the MP raised the issue in Parliament and drew the attention of the Ministry of Surface Transport and Highways mentioning the urgent needs in the view of the safety and security of the residents and commuters using NH-60. As many as 62 accidents have been reported and 33 persons killed by these mishapa at the spot within 10 years, stated Jena.
NHAI Kharagpur Division Project Director TK Vaidya, Bhubaneswar Regional Manager S Padhi and other officers inspected the vulnerable spot. Besides MP Jena, Jaleswar MlA Aswini Patra, Basta MlA Nityanand Sahu, Panchayati Raj institution members and local villagers were present during the discussions held with the NHAI officials.
