Police have arrested two persons, including the prime accused, in the sensational Pagani village mass murder case on January 28, 2017 and seized some ammunition from their possession.
The arrestees are Umesh Majhi (30) of village Suelpur and Santosh Dey (28) of village Manikhamb, both under the Town police station. The police have seized one magazine and two live rounds from the possession of Umesh, informed ASP Santosh Nayak in a Press briefing on Thursday.
Nayak said the accused duo had absconded after committing the crime. They were nabbed on the basis of intelligence inputs when they returned home.
Notably, the coldblooded murder of four persons of a family, took place on the fateful night at about 2.30 am in Paganai village, when the family members were fast asleep. The victims were Prativa Mandal (40), her 19 year-old daughter Suman Mandal and her 17 year-old son Subali Mandal and her 13 year-old nephew Bibek Majhi.
The incident was fallout of an acute family acrimony which cropped up from a property dispute. The Sadar police had earlier arrested five accused in the
connection with the murder case.
After the murder of Mahesh Majhi, his brothers had planned to take revenge and targeted the sister of Kharabela, Prativa. Accordingly, they hatched a conspiracy and committed the crime. “Efforts are on to nab the other accused, who are still at large,” said ASP Nayak.
