Baleswar MP Rabindra Kumar Jena on Tuesday placed a demand in the Parliament for air connectivity between Bhubaneswar and Pune at the earliest so that the two cities can be well-connected in the fields of IT, education and tourism.
“Due to lack of direct flights between Bhubaneshwar and Pune, passengers take flights via Hyderabad or Mumbai and spend both time and money,” he apprised the House.
There were plans to increase the connectivity of Bhubaneswar and Pune, but no action has yet been taken, Jena observed.
“Without the requisite air connectivity, Odisha cannot expect a jumpstart in development given all the potential that the State has in tourism, education and IT sectors.
Thus, the Central Government must consider this demand and take action at the earliest,” demanded Jena.
He further urged the Centre for revival of the Rasgobindapur airstrip located on the border of Baleswar and Mayurbhanj, which was used during the Second World War, now lying in a dilapidated state.
