A married woman of Raj-Berhampur in Nilgiri in Baleswar district has alleged that her mother-in-law and sister-in-law used to compel her to establish physical relationship with Surendranath Mishra alias Sura Baba of Jhiinti Sasan on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
In her written complaint to the local police, she alleged that her in-laws duo had tried unsuccessfully for the wrong reason against her will.
The woman, who married about eight years ago to a man in Azimabad under the Baleswar Town police station, stated that her mother-in-law and sister-in-law were ardent follower of the Baba. Just after the fourth night of her marriage, she was taken to the Baba’s ashram for the night service of the Baba to ward off the evils that were supposed to afflict her husband. She was forced to do the Baba’s Seva.
While she refused to oblige her in-laws, they threatened that she would suffer widowhood as written in her fate after she refused to attend the Seva.
Following her refusal, the in-laws meted out all kinds of torture to her, she stated in her complaint. Since then, she has been residing with her parents.
Berhampur police station Officer-in-Charge Prabhukalyan Acharya said, “An FIR has been received in this regard. Since the incident occurred when she was at Azimabad, we will transfer the case to the Baleswar Town police station.”
