The Basta police arrested a 45-year-old man after a video of him brutally beating his 81-year-old widowed mother went viral on the social media. The incident had taken place in village Baitapada under the Basta police station on Wednesday. later, Block Social Security Officer Murlidhar Chand lodged an FIR with police on Friday after the video clips went viral in social media.
Basta SDPO Ranjit Kumar Prusty said the accused identified as Sridhar Nayak has been forwarded to court after being booked under Section 307 of IPC for attempt to murder.
“The accused is the younger son of the victim. After the Social Security Officer lodged an FIR against him, Sridhar was taken into custody,” said Prusty.
“The accused was sent to judicial custody on Monday after his bail plea was rejected. On Wednesday, the neighbours after hearing the screams came out and saw Sridhar was beating his mother mercilessly even as she pleaded for relief.
