The Special Judge POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) convicting a 48-year-old rape accused awarded him 10 years jail term along with Rs 5,000 fine and in default another 3 months term.

The convict, Sanyasi Mandal, of Sukhdukhia village under Jaleswar police station limits had sexually assaulted a minor girl (5) of Bhograi on March 24, 2015.

The mother of the victim had lodged an FIR with police after she learnt.

Advocate Pranab Panda, special public prosecutor, conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution. According to Panda, the convict, a self-styled fortune teller, committed the offence when he had visited the house of the victim on the pretext of reading palms of the family members.

Finding opportunity while Mandal committed the offence, the victim had revealed later about it to her family members. The police registered a case under 376 of IPC and POCSO. Judge Ajanta Sarangi, after cross examining 12 witnesses and going through nine relevant documents, pronounced the order on Saturday.
