The Bar Association of Baleswar on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the district Collector pertaining to the recent falling of a bus from the flyover in the town resulting in the death of two persons including a senior lawyer, Harish Mohanty.
The memorandum demanded `50 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased families and `20 lakh each for the injured. It also demanded proper maintenance of the flyover and strengthening of its railings for safety of public.
“Further, we demand regular raids by the Regional Transport Authority on the vehicles for their fitness as most of the outdated vehicles of neighbouring States are being plied here after alterations, modifications and colouring, etc,” a bar association leader said.
“The fitness of drivers and alcohol test for them should be ensured by surprise raids,” he said.
The courts here couldn’t function in the day as the Bar began observing three-day mourning from Saturday for the deceased advocate. The administration was urged to take steps for ensuring road safety in the State.
