Veteran politician Arun Dey on Monday said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik should conduct a review of the law and order situation in Baleswar district during his visit to the district on Wednesday.
“He should find some time to review the law and order situation of the district during his visit. The district is passing through a crisis patch,” maintained Dey while addressing a press conference here.
He pointed out that murders, snatchings, loots and burglaries have become order of the day in the district due to poor policing; and that in none of the recent major cases of crime, the police have achieved success.
Blaming squarely the district Superintendent of Police for the situation, Dey alleged that the police administration has become defunct due to his ineffectiveness. The district police head’s poor control over his men, incidents of firing and stabbing have been taking place occurred in Baleswar town.
He pointed out that recently, three firing incidents, including one resulting in murder, and a case of stabbing occurred in the town. Police while sitting with finger crossed, the denizens are living in fear as they have no more courage to face the situation. “I am raising the issues as an ordinary resident of this district. The situation is grave.
The intellectuals are not opening their mouths in fear of attack on them. The Chief Minister should look into it,” said Dey. “Investigations are getting delayed as police stations are engaged in determining their boundaries. Due to lack control of police, road Romeos are ruling the streets. Rash driving without number plates in the bikes goes unchecked,” he said.
