After getting the shocking news of the death of a young telecom engineer, who was working in South Africa, his family members on Wednesday demanded an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the death and further appealed to the State Government to initiate action so that his body is brought to his native place Soro at the earliest.

Kiran Kumar Singh, 31, who was working in luanda in a private company since February this year, was to board flight for India to visit his family members on Tuesday. Instead, the report of his death came from one of his Indian colleagues, Amit Patel, on May 19. The family members suspect some foul play in the incident.

Patel had two days ago, on May 17, telephoned Kiran Singh’s wife stating that her husband met with an accident while travelling in a car as a front tyre of the vehicle burst.

Patel had informed that Singh had received injuries in his spinal cord and was admitted in an ICU there, but his condition was not alarming.

Though Singh was working for the company named AITC, its managing director Jose Carlos Carvalho neither informed the family about the accident nor about the death. On the other hand, the officer couldn’t be contacted, the deceased’s elder brother Bijay Singh alleged and demanded a probe into the whole episode through the Indian Embassy in South Africa.

Kiran Singh, who had married on February 3 this year, left India for South Africa on February 15.

“The news was just like a bolt from the blue. We suspect something foul in the matter. Therefore, we demand a high-level inquiry in the case. Further, the body should be brought to Baleswar at the earliest. We have approached all, including IIC to SP and district Collector to State Home Department and local MlA Surendra Parmanik about this. We are only hearing consolation. The appeals should be addressed,” said Bijay Singh, a resident of Sarasankha, Soro.
