The Bhadrak and Baleswar district Collectors are yet to submit their survey reports and the details about the compensation paid to thousands of land losers to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in connection with the Gamei and Kansbans Sanskar Project.
The NHRC has been monitoring the case acting on a petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer and rights campaigner Radhakanta Tripathy and had also sought an action-taken report (ATR) from the Chief Secretary.
Though nearly 5,000 families have affected due to the project, their grievances are being ignored and neglected by the Government, Tripathy alleged. The case was investigated by a five member NHRC team in July 2013 and found certain irregularities in the project implementation.
The NHRC further in its camp sitting at Bhubaneswar in November, last year said, “The matter relates to the renovation work which was taken up on the banks of rivers Kansabansa and Gamei which passed through districts of Baleswar and Bhadrak. Since it was alleged that in the process of renovation, a lot of land on the riverfront had been used, the State authorities have initiated a survey of the land along with the banks of the rivers to ascertain the exact factual position. Water Resources Secretary Pradeep Jena is directed to share copies of the survey reports with the commission on receipt and also to parallel initiate action on the findings of the survey reports. A compliance report is expected within 10 weeks.” But the same is yet to be submitted with the commission despite the completion of the deadline.
