B'swar admn on toes after first swine flu death

Following the death of Additional Director of Fisheries (Marine) Anup Sahu due to swine flu, Additional District Medical Officer (Public Health) Charubala Rath with a team visited the office of Sahu at Sunhat here on Monday.

After conducting sanitisation in the office, she distributed anti-swine flu antibiotics among the staff of the office. She, however, suspected Sahu could have been affected with the virus during the district industrial fair cum Pallishree Mela which was held between February 4 and 8.

Rath said, “We carried out disinfection of the office room premises and its neighbourhood. The staff including deceased Sahu’s office driver were medically examined and were found to have no symptoms   of the virus. However, we gave them anti flu medicines. We suspect Sahu could have been affected during the industrial fair where participants from different States had attended.”

Meanwhile, sources said there is no provision of testing of swabs for H1NI in the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Baleswar. As a result, swabs of all the suspected cases are being sent to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. The DHH authorities said Sahu was the first case of swine flu.
