Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) activists on Thursday staged a demonstration here at PMG Square demanding withdrawal of the State Government’s notification giving Rourkela the status of a Municipal Corporation.
Stating that creation of a Rourkela Municipal Corporation does not arise at all as per the Constitutional provision of Article 243 zc and Clause (1) of Article 244 and prior approval of the gram sabha of Jagda mouza and different mouzas of Jhartarang grampanchyat and Nabakrushnanagar which were included under corporation has not been taken as per PESA Act, 1996, party Sundargarh district unit president Anselen Topno submitted a memorandum to the Governor urging him to intervene in the matter.
The party urged the Governor to direct the Government to withdraw its notification soon.
