The family members of 21-year-old Pramila Khara had lost hope as she could not be rushed to a hospital in the cutoff area in Malkangiri district despite complaining of labour pain due to non-availability of ambulance or any other vehicle. Writhing in pain, Pramila had to remain stranded at inaccessible Badapada village till a team of BSF jawans, who had gone for a routine patrolling in the area, came to her rescue on Thursday.
The jawans, as if sent by the Almighty as His ‘messengers’, made all efforts to shift Pramila to a nearby hospital at Janbai and then to the Chitrakonda hospital as her condition had deteriorated.
The BSF team led by Assistant Commandant of Janbai Sushil Singh and Sandip Gupta of Badapada and their team ferried Pramila in their boat and took her to the Chitrakonda hospital. After a few minutes’ treatment, she came out of danger, sources said. Villagers, doctors and all others lauded the efforts of the BSF jawans. BSF is not only to protect the villagers from Maoists but also remains prepared always to meet any emergency for the safety of the denizens, said DIG JC Naik.
Dhananjay Khora, husband of Pramila, said the BSF officers and jawans have saved my wife and my upcoming child. They have taken risk to save us and they are the real God for us, he said.
Earlier, CRPF jawans had set an example by carrying two tribal women on slings for over 7 km after they were severely injured in explosions of pressure bombs planted by Maoists in Chitrakonda in January this year.
