The BSF 151 Battalion on Friday detected an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Maoists in Kusumput fores in Malkangiri district while carrying out area dominance operations.
Earlier, an operations party of COB Govindpalli led by Inspector Mohan Lal Saini while carrying out search saw something suspicious. He then informed about 151 Battalion Commandant Ajay Kumar, who directed them to take necessary action as per procedure.
The BSF personnel secured the area and carried out extensive search near the Bahadurguda village and found an IED in a two-litre steel container under a stone.
They also found a bunch of wire under another stone approximately 5 metre away from first place. Later, a bomb disposal (BD) team destroyed the IED after taking due precaution. There was no loss to life and property.
It was suspected that the IED was placed by the Maoists on the route to target security force during area domination operations, according to an Odisha police release.
