India is not a major pollutant in comparison to other major polluting countries. But the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a bold step to reduce carbon emissions in the country, said Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan while inaugurating the launch of BS-IV grade fuel here on Saturday.

Pradhan said BS-IV grade fuel was being simultaneously launched in 13 cities in the country at an estimated cost of Rs 90,000 crore.

“I am happy that that the oil marketing companies in the country were able to come up with the BS-IV compliant fuels in a very short period. This will help in ensuring low carbon emissions for a clean and green environment,” said the Minister.

Official sources said the country has taken a step forward by launching of the BS Grade-IV fuel. By 2020, Grade-VI fuel would be launched to meet the emission norms. Among others, senior officials of the oil marketing companies, Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum were present.
