In a major breakthrough, a flying squad of the Excise Department on Monday seized 280 grams of brown sugar worth nearly Rs 30 lakh following raids at two places in the city.
Two drug peddlers from Aradabazar in Baleswar were arrested in this connection. They were identified as Sk Sahid (30) and Jada Soren (24). Two motorcycles were also seized from their possession.Sources said Sahid was nabbed after the raid near OMP Square while Soren was arrested from Jobra Barrage Square.
“We had formed two special squads after getting a tipoff that two drug peddlers will be handing over the contraband consignment to agents in Cuttack,” said Excise Sub-Inspector Hitanshu Sekhar.
Sekhar further said that efforts are on to ascertain the source of procurement of the narcotic and the targeted disposal point as involvement of a major racket was suspected behind the illicit trade.
