Excise Department sleuths on Wednesday arrested two drug peddlers here and seized brown sugar worth lakhs of rupees from their possession.
Acting on a tipoff, police raided the areas near the Baramunda bus-stand and the Indradhanu market and nabbed the two youths.
Brown sugar worth over Rs 3 lakh was recovered from their possession. Besides, police also recovered Rs 27,000 in cash from the arrested duo.
Sources said the accused persons were in police custody and their identities were yet to be revealed.
A few days back, a huge quantity of brown sugar had also been seized from Salia Sahi under the Nayapalli police station. In the last few months, more than a dozen cases of brown sugar seizure have been reported from the city which has not only created a challenge for the police and excise officials but has also become a concern for the denizens.
