In a joint operation by the Laxmisagar police and Quick Action Team (QAT), brown sugar weighing 19.40 gm was seized from a woman of Haladipadia slum in the city on Thursday night. The prime accused identified as one Maina Routray (37) was taken into police custody.
Apart from the contraband, police also seized Rs 36,640 cash from Routray’s possession and an investigation has been launched into the case. A few days back, the Excise Department officials had arrested a B Tech student of a private university for selling brown sugar near Big Bazar in Patia area of the city. Prior to that, officials of the Excise Department had seized brown sugar worth Rs 38 lakh from Chintamaniswar and Haldipadia area in the city.
