Bribery-tainted G'pati engineer absconds

Published on:

A lineman was caught red-handed by a Vigilance team, while an engineer connected with a bribery case absconded from the spot in Rayagada block in Gajapati district on Friday.

The complainant Sukadava Gomango, a resident of Mandalsahi village under the Ramagiri police station, whose electric connection was disconnected without any prior information, met the lineman to know the reason. The line man said it was done on an order from the engineer. When Gamango met engineer Kasab Kumar Gandhi, the latter demanded `6,000 to fix a pole near his house. Gomango expressed his inability over the matter.

However, Gandhi insisted him on paying `4,000 to resume connection. On this, Gamango met the Vigilance and lodged his complaint.

On Friday Vigilance sleuths led by DSP Surendra Nath  Panigrahi raided the lineman while Gamango was paying the bribe money and seized `4,000 from him. A case was registered.
