Brawl at wedding venue over bride swipe

An interesting case has come to the fore here in which the family members of a bridegroom lodged an FIR at a police station over exchange of brides at a marriage venue.

The marriage negotiation between a youth of Kaudaibarai under the Patkura PS and a girl of Era village under the Kendrapada Sadar PS was fixed with the consent of both the family members. The duo family members later fixed the marriage to be held at Jirala based –Kameshwar Mahadev temple  on July 6.

The bride and bridegroom and the duo family members reached at Jirala temple for solemnizing the marriage on the appointed day. Later, the marriage was started ,but the groom and his family allegedly suspected  that the bride with whom the marriage was to be settled, was not the same person as the bride, who was sitting at the marriage mandap. She was smaller in height than the real bride. As a result, suspecting the bride was changed , the groom family opened the veil of the bride.

To their surprise, they unearthed that the bride to whom their marriage was fixed was not the same. Soon a brawl occurred over the incident. However, the bride's family left the bride there and left the venue.

The groom’s family has given shelter to the bride and the little girl is in their village. But , the bride’s family members are not coming to take their daughter, despite several messages through the marriage negotiator. As a result, the bridegroom’s family lodged a plaint with police.

In another incident, a 45-year- old woman ,who was the mother of two children , fled with a 30-year-old youth.

The woman is the mother of a 22-year-old boy and 18- year-old girl and belongs to Karilopatana village under Patkura PS. She had developed extramarital affair with a youth of Kabatbandha village under Jenapur PS of Jajpur district. The woman  fled with the youth after leaving her husband and two  children after 25 years of marriage.

The woman’s mother lodged an FIR at Patkura PS in this connection.
