BJD candidate for the May 31 Brajarajnagar
Assembly by-election, Alaka Mohanty, filed her nomination papers at
the Jharsuguda Sub-Collector’s office on Wednesday, the last date for
filing of the nominations.
Mohanty, wife of late MLA Kishore Kumar Mohanty, filed her
nomination in the presence of several senior party leaders, including
Ministers Susanta Singh, Pdmanabha Behera, Tukuni Sahu and Naba
Kisore Das.
Earlier in the day, BJP candidate Radharani Panda arrived at the Sub-
Collector’s office in a grand procession with hundreds of workers and
filed her nomination papers. Besides, Congress’ Kishore Chandra
Patel accompanied by several party leaders and supporters also filed
his nomination papers May 31.
The nominations will be scrutinised on Thursday while the candidates
are allowed to withdraw their nomination papers by May 17.
A total of 2,14,745 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the
constituency’s 257 booths.
