Brahmpur to have 43 wards; 23 for women

The number of wards in the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC) would be increased from 40 to 43 before the ensuing council elections, scheduled to be held in the second half of the current year.

The proposal has consent of majority of present Corporators and would be sent to the State Government for approval, said BMC Commissioner Chakroborty Singh Rathore.

A special meeting of the council had been convened at the BMC on Tuesday. MlA Dr RC Chyaupatnaik attended the meeting presided over by Deputy Mayor Jyotsna Nayak. It was revealed that all Sahis of the BMC have been planned to be in a circle region. Seat reservations have been made as per caste-population and as many as 23 have been reserved for women, Rathore said. The reason behind extending number of wards and lessening area of wards is to make governance reach to reach nook and cornor of the city in an easy way, he said.

Rathore informed that corporators can lodge complaints regarding area coverage in their respective wards to the Directorate of Housing and Urban Development Department. Only three-to-four Corporators opposed the ward delimitation, said sources.

The City had a total population of 3,56,598 as per the 2011 Census.
