Brahmapur would soon have a City Commercial Centre at Vivek Vihar in Ambapua road near Gopalpur junction on the outskirts of the city on NH-5, the news that brought cheer to its denizens. The proposed mega commercial complex would be constructed on a patch of 13 acres of land at an estimated cost of `300 crore.
This was decided at a meeting of a high-level committee held here on Wednesday. Presiding over the first project-level meeting, Ganjam district Collector Premchand Choudhury said two-thirds of the commercial center would be dedicated to a shopping complex and the remaining one-third would be utilised for constructing houses and commercial buildings.
The design of the City Commercial Centre is ready and awaiting final approval from the Government, after which work would be started, sources said.
The Brahmapur Development Authority (BDA) has planned to make the City Commercial Centre a multistoried marketing site with offices, a multiplex and a shopping mall inside it.
The mall is designed to be constructed on a land of five acres and likely to be executed in public-private-partnership mode.
Further, the centre would include retail facilities, recreational activities, club facilities, food courts, shopping malls, multiplex, hotels and convention centre, corporate offices and green landscaping on the site.
Among others present at the meeting included BDA Secretary Dipti Mohapatra, Planning Member Debaraj Mohapatra, Sushant Kumar Patra, BMC City Engineer Kedar Chandra Khatua, Chief Finance Officer Siba Shankar Patra, Member of Project Monitoring Unit Arvind Viswanath and Sradha Kumar.
However, working out of the committee’s decision on the proposed mega Commercial City Centre is clouded by suspicion as two similar such ambitious projects, on which decision was taken earlier, such as the Vivek Vihar Housing project and the mega ring road project for Greater Brahmapur are yet to be implemented as neither the land required for the projects has been acquired fully nor funds are available for both the projects yet, sources said.
