Members of the Sanskarbadi, a socio-cultural organisation, as part of its awareness campaign for protecting environment led by its founder president Trinath Maharana undertook a massive tree plantation programme here on Wednesday.
They planted trees at some key places covering main roads of the city and distributed leaflets urging the public to protect environment in view of the emerging climate change scenario.
Inaugurating the programme, Maharana explained the importance of a compatible environment and its role for leading a hazard-free life. Since the BDA and the BMC have planted a number of trees in various parts of the city in the current monsoon season, these trees need to be nurtured and water should be sprinkled regularly starting from January for their survival for which the residents should extend their cooperation in their respective localities, he said. Among others, Sanjukta Behera, Meenakshi Das, Prafulla Patra, Sanskarbadi vice-president Umacharan Muni and secretary RK Mondal and a band of senior citizens and environmentalists participated in the programme.
