Brahmapur Sub-Collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan told that departmental action has already been initiated against Das and urged the journalists to call off the stir. This incident was a sequel to an earlier incident of selling a three-day old new born baby to a childless couple identified as Radhesyam Sahu and Subhasini Sahu of Brahmapur for Rs 25,000. According to information available, the woman Sushma Sahu, wife of Rabi Sahu, a resident of Bada Bazaar area, gave birth to the child at the City Hospital a few days ago. After she was discharged from the hospital, she reportedly sold the baby to the   childless couple at a mutually agreed price. Sushma said that she was forced to take the step as their financial condition was poor. She added that her husband worked as a daily wager and she already has two children to support.

On the other hand, the childless couple claimed to have given Sushma a phone, a sari, some food and Rs 25,000 in cash. After knowing the incident, NGO Child line in Brahmapur reportedly visited Sushma’s house on Friday and rescued the baby. The District Child Welfare Officer had also written a letter to probe the incident.
