Hundreds of activists of the Manav Adhikar Suraksha Manch (MASM) displayed black umbrellas and staged a demonstration in front of the RDC (Southern Division) office here on Wednesday demanding dismissal of both district Collector and Superintendent of Police of Rayagada as they are “responsible” for the murder of Tikiri schoolteacher Itishree Pradhan.
The activists pointed out that the repeated request made by Itishree to the district administration to give her justice remained unheeded which ultimately led to her death. Had the administration and the police initiated action against the accused, such a tragedy would have been avoided, said MASM coordinator advocate Abani Kumar Gaya. On the other hand, the district administration added salt to injury of Itishree by promoting the accused Sub-Inspector of Schools Netrananda Dandsena reportedly at the behest of the local ruling BJD MP. The demonstrators also demanded a CBI inquiry into the case to unravel the truth of the incident.
They submitted a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir through the RDC demanding immediate action in the case. Among those who led the demonstration were Abani Kumar Gaya, Shyam Sundar Sadangi, BJP youth leader Prabhat Sadangi, Maguni Nahak, Bansidhar Bhuyan, Prasant Kumar Das, AK Verma, Bishnupriya Rana, BK Bisoyi and a galaxy of youth leaders and senior citizens.
