The city police arrested one out of four miscreants while they were attempting to loot huge amounts of gold ornaments at gunpoint from a jewellery shop at Santarani Street in the Sana Bazar area under the Bada Bazar police station here on Sunday.

According to reports, the Ramakrishna Jewellers showroom opened as usual on Sunday. Since it was a holiday, no workers of the shop turned up to their duties. The shop owner’s son A Satish Kumar was reportedly alone in the shop when the incident took place.

At around 2 pm, when Satish was sitting in the shop, four miscreants came by two motorbikes and halted in front of the shop. While three of them putting on monkey caps entered into the shop, the fourth miscreant remained seated on the bike, which was in a starting condition and was found waiting for the three to return.

Immediately after entering the shop, the three miscreants brandished a mouser at Satish and asked him to immediately pack all the ornaments in a bag and hand over the bag to them. Satish tactfully started accumulating ornaments one after another at one place and pretended to pack, keeping a close watch on the movements of the miscreants.

In the meantime, the miscreants got absentminded and diverted their attention from Satish just for a moment. Taking advantage of the situation, Satish tried to snatch the mouser from one of the miscreants, but in vain. Being enraged at this, a miscreant opened fire at Satish.

The bullet, however, passed through Satish’s left hand without hurting him. Satish once again tried to snatch the mouser from the miscreant, but this time the mouser fell on the floor. looking at such courage of Satish, the three miscreants went out of the shop and fled.

When the remaining miscreant started his motorbike and wanted to escape, Satish chased him showing the same mouser at him and handed him over to the police in the presence of the public. The police arrested the miscreant and seized his mouser and motorbike.

Satish’s courage and presence of mind was highly appreciated by the public. Such repeated incidents of burglary, looting, and other crimes in the city have created panic among the denizens, particularly among the business community.
