Vigilance officers on Monday arrested Assistant Administrative Officer of Orissa Rural Housing Development Corporation ltd, Brahmapur, Gyanendra Swain for demanding bribe of Rs5,000.
Swain had demanded the bribe from one Rama Chandra Choudhury of Gurumurtipentha under the Bada Bazar police station here to release the document, which was mortgaged by him at the time of availing of loan.
The complainant alleged that he had availed HUDCO loan amounting to Rs 13,000 from Orissa Rural Housing Development Corporation ltd, Brahmapur in 2002. In course of time, he paid a sum of Rs54,900 on different dates and cleared the entire loan amount including the interest.
When Choudhury repeatedly approached Swain to return the documents of his residential house, which was mortgaged by him at the time of availing of loan, the latter demanded the bribe.
later, Swain was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe at his chamber. Swain would be forwarded to court on Tuesday while his house at Soubhagya Nagar, Bhubaneswar is being searched.
