Brahmapur homoeopathy students continue protest

Published on:

Students of the Biju Patnaik Homoeopathy Medical College and Hospital continued their hunger strike in front of the college demanding basic facilities and teacher appointment for the eighth dayon Friday.

The students alleged that the State Government does not pay heed to their repeated demands. They have been requesting the senior officials to solve their college problems, but in vain.

They said the college is running with only seven teachers out of a total 35 sanctioned posts, as a result of which both theory and practical classes are not conducted regularly. Even, there are no common rooms for girls or boys and no regular library facilities, they pointed out.

The students further alleged that the indoor hospital of the college is not functioning due to lack of staff. The Government is yet to sanction four required Homoeopathy Medical Officers (HMOs), two Homoeopathy Assistants, a lab technician and a radiographer for the hospital.

Three fasting girl students, Susmita Behera, Asha Behera and Gayatri Chaudhury, were admitted to the City Hospital for treatment. Though Brahmapur MlA Ramesh Chandra Chyau Patnaik and the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) assured the students to solve the problems, the students demanded a written assurance from the Government.

Former Brahmapur Mayor Siba Shankar Das and many other leaders have lent their support to the students’ demands.
