The relay hunger strike for establishment of IIM in Brahmapur was called off on the fifth day on Saturday as per a direction of Prof PK Sahu, chairman of a forum leading an agitation for the last three months for the premier institution.
The strike had support from all political parties. All the 12 MlAs had unitedly made an appeal to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for establishment of the IIM at Brahmapur.During the five days of the strike, different business organisations like the local chamber of commerce, Brahmapur Whole Sale Cloth Merchants Association and Brahmapur Jewellers Association had extended their support.
The forum had got wonderful support from all sectors and sections of society, including the common people, students, political leaders, institutions, NGOs, intellectuals, legal fraternity and media etc.“It is unfortunate that no Government agency has turned up to at least share our concerns. The basic principle of democracy happens to be human element.
It is regrettable that this element is missing in our State system of administration,” said the forum in a release after it was decided that the permanent campus for the IIM was most likely to be set up in Bhubaneswar.
