A Class IX student of an English medium school at Meenakshi Nagar in the city has disappeared from school hostel since Wednesday.

Family members of the boy lodged a complaint at the Gosaninuagaon police station in this regard on Friday. Sources said the police have recovered a handwritten letter of the student and registered a case.

The student, Sanand Samuel Pradhan (14), the only son of Anjan Pradhan and Kausalya of Daringibadi, went out of the hostel by jumping its boundary wall on July 1 late night without even informing his roommates, who had last seen him at around 11 pm in the same night.

Sanand, earlier a student of a Kerala-based school, had got admission into the school here early this academic session. His mother Kausalya is working as a teacher at the Karikutta UP School at Daringibadi in Kandhamal district.

In his letter, Sanand has urged his parents not to worry over his absence while assuring that he would return to them one day after a getting a job. Though the school authorities knew about his missing in the same night, they informed his parents soon but not the police for the reasons best known to them.

Sanand’s disappearance has pained parents of other students too. How a student, who has no financial liability, is so crazy to earn money and how he could go out of the locked and guarded hostel campus are the questions now hurting them.
