The matter of issuance of Aadhaar cards has become a great headache for the citizens of Brahmapur as they are running from pillar to post to acquire information about inclusion of their names in the list.
For instance, in the Gandhinagar area, the names of hundreds of persons are missing. The persons in charge of Aadhaar cards and the enumerators are not able to furnish accurate information to the citizens.
While a section of officials said that members who were not present at home during the period of enumeration in May 2010 are excluded from the list, while another official said that the names of the persons remained absent at home during the May 2011-12 enumeration are missing.
There are instances galore to show that some citizens had to run a dozen of times to their respective schools which act as Aadhaar card centres, the BMC office and the Town Hall office to avail accurate information about the current status of their cards, but in vain. Different officials on duty give different answers to the citizens.
For instance, answers like “See the list and find your name”; “I am not supposed to show my computer records in detail”; “The concerned enumerator-teacher has not come to the centre”; “Your fresh enumeration will be made after January this year”; “It is lunch time, come after 3 O clock”; and “Enumerator will go to your area tomorrow” have become a routine affair.
As a result, citizens, more particularly senior citizens, are running to these centres every day, but neither the BMC nor the Government has evolved any mechanism to give specific answer about the current status of Aadhaar enrollment.
No enumerator has yet come to the Gandhinagar 3rd line Extension area in spite of repeated requests and verbal complaints by several senior citizens of the area.
The situation at the Aadhaar card centre at the Gajapatinagar Primary School became tense while taking photographs of citizens on Tuesday.
More than 200 citizens, including senior citizens and old women, were in queue for their photographs for several hours without any progress.
After the situation became uncontrollable, the work of enumeration and photography came to a standstill for an hour.
According to a senior citizen, all the centres opened for taking photographs and doing the work of enumeration are in a state of mess and chaos.
Neither any one neither is able to give correct answer nor is their work disposed of quickly, causing serious inconvenience to the public.
The software tool used for the purpose is not user-friendly as it is not able to provide accurate information pertaining to the status of a citizen about inclusion of his or her name in the Aadhaar card database nor is it able to integrate the Aadhaar card-related records or the database with that of the general census record, sources said.
