Brahman body's meet on quota in Puri today

To express its views against the State Government’s move to increase reservation ratio for SC and ST students in educational institutions to 38.75 per cent from 20 per cent, the Odisha Brahman Mahasangha will organise a special convention in Puri on Wednesday.

The meeting would discuss on various issues relating to caste-based reservations and ways how to prevent it, informed Mahasangha president Purna Chandra Mohapatra.

“While meritorious students belonging unreserved category don’t get admission in educational institutions, SC and ST students securing less marks get enrolled,” rued Mohapatra.

Owing to such quotas, unreserved category students suffer irreparable losses at social, financial and mental levels, and with no other option, they are forced to leave the State or the country for their higher studies, he added.

The convention would raise all these issues and draw the State Government’s attention towards them, said Mahasangha vice-president  Simanchal Mohapatra.
