'B'pur wards delimitation, reservation illegal'

Published on:

The BJP, Ganjam district on Saturday alleged that delimitation of Brahampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) wards has not been done democratically and sought intervention of the Housing and Urban Development Secretary for a solution.

In a memorandum sent through the RDC, Southern Division, the BJP said all-party meetings are required to be convened before delimitation and creation of wards but no such move was taken by the concerned authorities. The wards that have been restructured or created and reservations done would only suit the interest of the ruling BJD. While there are big differences between neighbouring wards, reservations have not be been made on the basis of caste population. There are some Sahis kept in far away wards so that voters would have to cross three to four km to cast votes.

The irregularities would also stand on the way of development in coming days, alleged the party.

The party urged the Secretary to resolve all the issues raised by it otherwise public furore would take shape of a mass agitation in coming days for which both the Government and the administration would be held responsible.

District president Kahnu Charan Pati, Gopinath Panda, Rajesh Sahu, D Karunakar, l Mohan Das, Sisir Padhi, Prajnaparamita Padhi, Shiba Adhikari, Bijay Panda and many others undersigned the memorandum sent though the RDC, Southern Division.
