Telugu Samikshya new office-bearers chosen

Socio-cultural organisation, Youth-Odisha Telugu Samikshya, held a meeting for renovation of the Prakasham Hall, a century old heritage institution which remains neglected since long. It was presided over by veteran social worker AR Verma.

Though the “Telugu Vasha Vivardhan Samaj” has been making all-out efforts to renovate the heritage building, it has failed in its mission, observed the members.

While speaking on the occasion, most members expressed their concern over inordinate delay in reconstruction and renovation work despite huge funds collected for the purpose. According to information available, grants to a tune of `40 lakh including `15 lakh from MPlAD, `5 lakh MlAlAD, `10 lakh from fund of State Chief Minister, `10 lakh from fund of Andhra CM, was received but not a single brick was used for the reconstruction of the building.

The meeting unanimously decided to approach the Government soon through some of Telugu Corporators and first BMC Telugu women Mayor K Madhavi.

The members also expressed their concern over the downsizing of the Telugu schools in the city. While there were more than 10 Telugu schools earlier, now the strength has been reduced to three causing inconvenience to the Telugu speaking students to get their school education.

The students are reportedly not getting Telugu text books in the schools which is a serious impediment in their learning, said the members.

While Telugu teachers are posted in the schools of Rayagada and Gajapati districts, the posts in schools in Ganjam district lie vacant, they lamented. They also discussed the proposal for opening of Telugu Sishu Vidya Mandir in Ganjam district on the line of Saraswati Sishu Vidya Mandir to strengthen Telugu education in the district in general and Brahmapur in particular, sources said.

The members also alleged that some Telugu teachers who were transferred to other schools are being forced to teach Odia, if no Telugu subject is available in those schools.

The new office bearers of  the Telugu Samikshya  chosen on the occasion include AR Verma (advisor), M Venkateramana (president), K Chakradhar (vice-president), K Nageswar Rao (secretary), K Kusuma (joint secretary), K Narayana Rao (coordinator) and Abani Kumar Gaya (legal advisor).
