The Brahmapur Stadium, which has been waiting for 28 years to get a facelift with an expanded boundary, is now all set to resolve the land issues and come up as a full-fledged stadium by December-end.
A meeting held on Wednesday between Sports and Youth Affairs Secretary Dr Saswat Mishra and NCC Group Commandant S Bhatacharya resolved the land issues, official sources said.At least four quarters of NCC officers are located in an area of 9.31 acres of land adjacent to the stadium. Though efforts were started in 2005 to demolish these quarters for expansion of the stadium yet it didn’t materialise as the land was under the possession of the Ministry of Defence.
The meeting decided that land would be used for expansion of the stadium and the State Government would construct quarters for the NCC officials at a different place. The State Government would bear all costs for the construction of the quarters, said Mishra, adding that concerned R&B officials have been asked to make estimates for construction of the quarters.
Sources said the Secretary has also asked the concerned officials to complete the stadium work by December end and PHD officials have been asked to spread a special pipeline to supply water to the stadium by November 15.
Among others, MlA RC Chyau Patnaik, Ganjam district Collector Premchandra Choudhury, Sub-Collector Bijay Kumar Das and BDA Secretary Rashmi Ranjan Nayak were present.
