B'pur slum kids hold rally on community issues

On the occasion of the Children’s Day, slum children here took out a mass rally and meetings at four slum areas, lanjipalli Goudabandha Street, Ambapua Bauri Street, Jagannath Nagar and Jagabandhu huda street and discussed about various issues of their communities.

The children under the banner of the Brahmapur Children’s Federation focused on issues, including sanitation, transportation, drinking water facilities, etc.  A total of 150 children from 30 slums and members of 27 child clubs and the children’s federation participated and gave their necessary inputs.

They pointed out that the most of the public toilets lack water supply and lighting facilities. Doors of many of them have been broken down, for which the locals are forced to go for open-defecation. Besides, there is no proper transport facility to the slums for which people are forced to travel at high fares.

“Due to lack of drinking water supply facilities, many slum children are engaged to bring water from far away that affects their study and other amusement activities,” said a member of the children federation.

Notably, the Youth for Social Development (YSD) is working with the children on issues related to local governance and public service delivery.
