There is yet another instance of prevailing lawlessness in the silk city. Pramod Kumar Sahu (35) engaged in real estate business and a resident of Ramahari Nagar under Baidyanathpur police limits was attacked brutally on Friday morning by a group of unidentified miscreants.
Though Sahu is residing in Ramahari Nagar, but he is a permanent resident of Gosaninuagaon area. Sahu was going towards Gosaninugaon when three unidentified motorcycle-borne miscreants who were reportedly following him right from the traffic post of the PVN Rao Petrol Pump, hurled two crude bombs at him. The miscreants were following Sahu in a TVS bike, sources said. Sahu’s hand was injured.
Soon Sahu changed his route and sped towards Bijipur in order to be un-noticed by the miscreants. His refusal to pay extortion money is said to be the cause of attack, sources said. Panic spread in the area, while businessmen pulled their shutters.
Sources said all the three miscreants are members of one family. According to information available, three brothers residing in Dheepasahi of lanjipalli area, namely Kalu Sahu, Bulu Sahu, and Tulu Sahu allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 as ‘Bati’ from Sahu, which led to the attack. The miscreants were threatening him of dire consequences as the Sahu did not oblige them.
Knowing that, they missed their target the miscreants again followed Sahu on his escape route and hurled two more bombs at him, one each at Bijipur and the other at Gosaninugaon Gundicha temple that slightly hit his head. When the local public gathered, the miscreants fled the spot.
Sahu filed a case with the Gosaninuagaon police. later, he was taken to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital for preliminary treatment.
Sahu thereafter lodged a former complaint in the Town Police Station. Police reportedly collected some parts of the bomb and an unexploded bomb lying on the road from Town hall road, Bijipur, and Gundicha Temple road of Gosaninugaon for analysis. Patrolling has been intensified.
In another incident, the Gosaninuagaon police have recovered a body of a young boy from Bedhabandha on Friday. The body was identified as Pankaj Das (26), a resident of Gosaninuagaon Chandimandir Street.
However, police have registered a case of unnatural death bearing case No.8/15, said IIC of Gosaninuagaon police station Sibasankar Mahapatra.
The repeated incidents of theft of vehicles, chain snatching, burglary and bombing have not only posed a serious threat to the city police, but also exposed serious gaps in patrolling system of the city police. Though the PCR mobile vans and other police patrolling vehicles are moving round the clock on the roads of the city, but the criminal activities have not stopped.
According to an estimate, though there are about 30,000 students from outside the city and the State currently studying in 50 odd institutions, so also 10,000 skilled and semi-skilled workers from neighboring States like West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh including Bangladesh refugees working with 30 odd real estate and construction firms in the city, but the district administration has hardly any mechanism like data base profiles to keep tab on them, sources said.
