B'pur pharmacy college suffers massive damages

Published on:

The pharmacy college at Mohuda on the outskirts of Brahmapur has suffered extensive damages due to Phailin and subsequent floods. Even after three weeks of the tragedy, normalcy has not been restored in the premier institute of the district.

An herbal garden of the college and some of its old buildings were completely damaged in the cyclone. Three of its old buildings were completely razed, while several others were left in precarious conditions. The college authority are yet to assess the loss and put forth a claim for necessary assistance.

During this hour of crisis, the college principal is reportedly at his native place Kolkata giving the charge of the institute to a faculty member. He has not cared little about the circular of the Government not to leave the headquarters during the Phailin and its aftermath till normalcy is restored.

According to an insider, recently, members of Ganjam & Phulbani Chemists’ & Druggists’ Association (GPCDA) and Utkal Chemists’ & Druggists’ Association (UCDA) along with president of the All India Chemists’ & Druggists’ Association (AICDA) congregated in the name of relief assessment/distribution at Brahmapur, but no sincere efforts were made to draw a blueprint of the loss and rebuild the college which is reportedly run by the GPCDA. There is a strong public perception that the State Government should take over the management of this premier college of south Odisha in the greater interest of the students.

Senior advocate and Ganjam Vikash Mancha advisor Siba Prasad Mishra urged the Government to immediately take over of the college and bring back its past glory.
