B'pur night shelter remains unused for 1 years

Published on:

The night shelter constructed at a coat of Rs 8 lakh one and a half years ago at the Old Bus-Stand here is yet to be functional, much to the worry of the long-route bus and train passengers.

The Brahampur Municipal Corporation (BMC) had constructed the night shelter in view of a longstanding demand of locals and it was to provide short-stay facility free of cost to passengers and tourists who would wait for trains and buses in the night.

There were plans for construction of such night shelters at other places in the city too.

According to BMC Commissioner Susant Kumar Mishra, plans are now afoot to provide shelter to people in the premises. People, who have no house in the city and belong to lower income group, can take a room for maximum up to a month’s time on rent for, which a negligible amount would be charged, he said. A notification to this effect would be issued soon, he added.
