The Manav Adhikar Suraksha Manch (MASM) observed Nabakrushna Choudhury birthday here on Monday morning.
Hundreds of MASM members accompanied by social workers, senior citizens, scribes, political leaders, youths and freedom fighters went in a procession and garlanded the statue of the former Chief Minister at Kamapalli square. The procession was led by Manch president Upendra Mishra.
MASM coordinator Abani Kumar Gaya alleged that the State Government is yet to give due respect to Choudhury as it is not implementing a total prohibition law that Choudhury had once dreamt of.
“On the pretext of revenue generation, the State Government made a conspiracy to destabilise the State, break the harmony and ruin the society,” he alleged.
He demanded that the Total Prohibition of liquor Act, 1956 adopted during Choudhury’s regime be implemented soon.
As an MlA, Nabakrushna Babu was always fighting for the interests of the poor and the downtrodden of Odisha. All the farmers had united to fight against the landlords who were exploiting them during his regime, recalled the speakers.
