The setting up of a Circuit Bench of the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum here has been delayed thanks to the apathy of the officials of the law Department where the file of the proposal has been stuck.
It is clear from the statement of Food and Consumer Welfare Minister SN Patro that the setting of Circuit Bench of Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum in the city has been finalized and for this, two member posts have been created. “But it has not got the final approval. So, the file has been sent to the law Department for its suggestions. After the department returns the file the Circuit Bench will start functioning.” He said.
Sources said the Government had announced to set up the bench in 2014. But in the meantime, though four years have passed, the requisite infrastructure and other facilities could not be put in place. This has triggered resentment among the consumer court lawyers.
There is deep disappointment among the people over the delay in various proposed projects in the city allegedly due to indifferent attitude of the Government. Though the lawyers have been agitating for a permanent bench of the Orissa High Court, the Government has not taken any decision on it, added sources.
